Avalanche warning for region Lofoten og Vesterålen Tuesday 03.05.2022

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Strong winds on Monday night may have formed wind slabs. Colder temperatures are stabilising the snowpack. Snow showers may cause large localised differences.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Monday 2. May 2022

2 under mildværet søndag.

Mountain weather

Monday 2. May 2022

8 mm precipitation, up to 13 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 200 m a.s.l Monday night. Fresh breeze from northwest, changing to gale from the north during the afternoon. -7 °C to 3 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Tuesday 3. May 2022

3-6 mm precipitation. Precipitation as snow. Fresh breeze from northwest, changing to breeze from the northwest during the evening. -6 °C to 0 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
